The Innocence + Experience Tour (styled as iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE) was a worldwide concert tour by rock band U2. Staged in support of the band's 2014 album Songs of Innocence, the tour visited arenas throughout 2015. It was U2's first time playing arenas since 2005–2006 on their Vertigo Tour. Comprising two legs and 76 concerts, the Innocence + Experience Tour opened on 14 May 2015 in Vancouver, Canada; the tour visited North America from May through July, and Europe from September through December. Shows were predominantly booked in pairs for each market.

Concerts were structured around a loose narrative of "innocence" passing into "experience", with a fixed set of songs for the first half of each show and a varying second half, separated by an intermission—a first for U2 concerts. The stage spanned the length of the venue floor and was divided into three sections: a rectangular segment representing "innocence"; a smaller circular B-stage representing "experience"; and a connecting walkway to represent the transition between the two themes. A 96-foot-long double-sided video screen was suspended above and parallel to the walkway; the structure featured an interior catwalk between the video screens, allowing the band members to perform amidst the video projections. For the tour, U2's sound system was moved to the venue ceilings and arranged in an oval array in hopes of improving acoustics by evenly distributing sound throughout the arena.

The Innocence + Experience Tour was well received by critics. According to Billboard, the North American leg of the tour grossed US$76.2 million from 36 sold-out concerts. In total, the tour grossed US$152.2 million from 1.29 million attendees. The final date of the tour, one of two Paris shows rescheduled due to the November 2015 Paris attacks, was filmed for broadcast on the American television network HBO.

Lead Singer

Paul David Hewson (born 10 May 1960), known by his stage name Bono (/ˈbɒn/), is an Irish singer-songwriter, musician, venture capitalist, businessman, and philanthropist.[2] He is best known as the lead vocalist of rock band U2. Bono was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, and attended Mount Temple Comprehensive School where he met his future wife, Alison Stewart, and the future members of U2.[3][4][5] Bono writes almost all U2 lyrics, frequently using religious, social, and political themes.[6][7] During U2's early years, his lyrics contributed to their rebellious and spiritual tone.[6] As the band matured, his lyrics became inspired more by personal experiences shared with the other members.[4][6]

Outside the band, he has collaborated and recorded with numerous artists,[8][9][10] is managing director and a managing partner of Elevation Partners,[11] and has refurbished and owns the Clarence Hotel in Dublin with The Edge.[12][13] Bono is also widely known for his activism concerning Africa, for which he co-founded DATA, EDUN, the ONE Campaign and Product Red.[4][14] He has organised and played in several benefit concerts and has met with influential politicians.[14][15][16] Bono has been praised and criticised for his activism and involvement with U2.[17][18][19]

Bono was granted an honorary knighthood by Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom for "his services to the music industry and for his humanitarian work", and has been made a Commandeur of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters). Together with Bill and Melinda Gates, Bono was named Time Person of the Year in 2005,[17][20][21] among other awards and nominations.
